Porsche Get Race Fit Weekend

Porsche Get Race Fit Weekend

Get race fit with Mark Webber and David Brabham

After being invited by Porsche GB to attend the ‘Get race fit weekend’ at the Porsche experience centre at Silverston, the first day began with breakfast and getting to know all the other individuals who were also participating. We were then divided up into groups in which we would stay for the two days of intense physical training.

Day One...

Day 1 began with torso training to strengthen the core to increase stability, we then went into a nutrition session where we went through all that is good and what is bad nutrition to ensure that whilst during a race weekend and away we are eating the right stuff. Next came speed and agility training then sports psychology, which I found particularly interesting as we used some technology that measured an individuals relaxation and how states of mind can affect ones self during a race event. Finally we finished with sports and conditioning. Over the day I was able to talk to Mark and David understanding there routines and techniques to stay fit, and to understand the intense environment in which top endurance drives compete.

Day 2...

Day 2 started off with a body composition test where a set of results were printed off indicating where all the different fat levels are in my body and various other elements that are vital to control.

After this we began with total body and strength and conditioning which included a reaction test which I ranked 3rd overall on the day just behind Josh Webster who is the current Porsche Carrera Cup champion and Dino Zamparelli. Once this was complete we then engaged in a Watt bike session for a full 1-hour interval training session, which was extremely physically demanding and what I thought was the hardest session of the whole weekend. Finally we finished off looking at neck, grip and shoulder training.

Great privilege

Overall the weekend was a great privilege to be apart of and getting to meet some really amazing people with great talents and interests as my self. Despite not actually racing in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB championship this season, I will still be training hard to be as physically fit for the 2016 season where I hope to be competing.
