Snetterton 300

Weapon of Choice

My first race of the year kicked off in Norfolk at the Snetterton 300 circuit in the Aero Racing Morgan Challenge series. The weapon of choice was my fathers Morgan +8 with a 4.6l V8, producing 400 bhp and running in class A.

Dealing with Traffic

Prior to qualifying it was over cast but dry which was the optimum conditions for the car due to all the power, however whilst in the collecting area a light drizzle of rain began. Nether the less we quickly got on track and began the session, where unfortunately I was amongst slower cars that held me back at the beginning. Once in almost clear space I put in a fairly decent lap whistle still learning the car and dealing with traffic. Eventually it became too wet to set a faster time, so P2 on the starting grid had to do.

Race 1 - Fastest Lap

The race began on a dry track and with a rolling start. Once the race began I was able to get the jump but I missed a gear and my fellow competitor Keith manage to stay ahead in to turn one a position that he would keep the whole race. I gave it my all in Race 1 taking fastest lap but with a few car issues I wasn’t able to put in those consistent lap times leaving me three seconds off the lead at the end of the race. However I was please with the result and was keen to progress in Race 2.

Race 2 - Great Success

Race 2 began in much the same way as Race 1 where I got the jump, but suddenly a strange engine issue prevented me from holding the lead. I ran close to first place for much of the race where I caught the leader by two seconds on one lap. Again I was able to take fastest lap this time only two seconds off the race lead finishing in second place. Overall the weekend was a great success driving a car I had such limited experience in and with car issues, I was satisfied with my performance.
