GT Cup Oulton Park

GT Cup Oulton Park

Due to various issues at the start of the year I was delayed in competing in my first GT car event of the season. My first and last GT race of 2015 was at Oulton Park with the GT Cup Championship where I wanted to start where I left off in 2014.

Consistent and Fast

This would be my second time out in a Porsche 991 GT3 Cup during 2015 after having tested one at Silverstone with the In2racing team. The weekend got off to a very pleasing start with Friday practice running smoothly and with the lap times being consistent and fast, which I was extremely pleased with.

2015 Class Title

Having not had the pressure to put in two good laps on new slick tyres for a year it was going to be tough to be on the pace straight away, especially against all the other competitors who have been out all season. However I put this behind me and got on with the job I had to do. Qualifying went extremely well and I out qualified the other car in my class by 3th’s and this individual had won the class title for 2015, so I was extra pleased.

Race #1

Race 1 began well and I was able to maintain 5th place overall and 1st in class for the whole race. I was particularly please with my pace of putting in consistent lap times, enabling me to maintain a nine second gap to the car behind me.

Race #2

Race 2 was much the same but with more competition behind making my race not only more enjoyable but much harder. Initially I was holding an Audi R8 behind but due to him not being in my class I decided it would be best to let him go. I then had a good battle with a BMW M3 GTR, he was better in some of the slower speed corners and I was better in others. Again I was able to maintain a consistent pace but with quicker lap times, showing my improvement over the two races. In the end I finished 6th overall and 1st in class. The weekend was a great success and I can’t thank the In2racing team enough for giving me such a great car.
